Understanding The Alaska Constitution: The Alaska Constitution is the basic legal framework for the State of Alaska. It explains how state government is organized, what powers it has, and what rights are protected for the people. The Constitution begins with a Preamble, followed by Article I - Declaration of Rights. This first article is Alaska's bill of rights. It protects basic freedoms such as equal rights, religious liberty, free speech, due process, trial rights, search and seizure protections, privacy, and other constitutional guarantees. The rest of the Constitution explains how Alaska's government works.
