Descrição do livro

I wanted to be the dad who could still do hard things alongside his kids. The one on the court, not on the bench. The one crossing finish lines with them someday, not watching from the sideline. But more than that — I wanted them to see what it looks like when someone commits to something hard and actually follows through. Including the days it doesn't go well. Including the failures. Including getting up anyway.

That was the idea. And when the opportunity came up to do a triathlon, I signed up.

The first one was brutal in a way I hadn't expected. I crossed the finish line completely spent — legs shaking, lungs burning, salt crusted on everything — and meant every word when I told my wife I was done.

She said "Ok." She knew better.

A few days later, I was already looking at the next race. A sprint became an Olympic. An Olympic became an Ironman 70.3. And somewhere on the horizon, more challenging things are taking shape — because that's what this does to you. One race leads to another, one goal raises the ceiling on the one that follows, and before long you realize this stopped being something you do and became part of who you are.

I'm not a professional athlete. I'm 37, married, two kids, full-time job. I started with a mountain bike and almost no idea what I was doing. I've made every mistake you can make — shown up underprepared, chased people I had no business chasing, missed things that mattered for a race, had panic attacks that crossed into training, and finished more than one event on knees held together with hope and stubbornness.

This isn't a training guide. This is an honest account of what it actually looks like to pursue something hard when your life is already full. The guilt of Saturday mornings away. The marriage that absorbs more than its fair share during heavy training blocks. The question you ask yourself at 4:15am when the alarm goes off and nobody would know if you just stayed in bed. And through all of it, your kids are watching — not just the finish lines, but everything in between.

If you're a dad thinking about doing something that scares you a little — a triathlon, a race, anything with a finish line — this is what it looked like for me. The good parts, the hard parts and the parts nobody mentions.

You don't need to be an athlete. You just need to be willing to find out what you're made of, set the example you want your kids to remember — and not lose what matters most in the process.

For dads training for — or thinking about — their first triathlon, Ironman, or any endurance challenge while balancing family and work.
