Five heavily armed people mounted the attack. They subdued security guards loading the Dore bars for transport on a commercial aircraft. At about the same time, a light plane, a twin-engine Cessna, landed, and within 10 minutes, the aircraft was airborne with the armed group, and all the Dore bars headed toward the mountains, never to be seen again. This theft was a clever heist heavily insured against theft. It almost appeared as a cooperative effort, but who knows for sure? How deep does the rot go when theft is simply a tiny headline in an obscure article? Is our society becoming like a dead tree lying on the ground rotting slowly as the worms digest the cellulose which used to give the tree its strength? I was confused by conflicting information. Politicians say everything is getting better, while other international authorities say everything is getting worse. How refined is culture when people are living on the streets of all cities? Life seems to be spinning out of control as old ways of living are discarded, and a brave new world of artificial intelligence takes hold of our lives. If you are incredibly wealthy, you have control of a bag of tricks to pull off a heist. Let us say you are a coal baron. It would help if you had labor to extract the black oil of progress. It would be best if you had dynamite to level mountains, but to you, it is a 4th of July fireworks display. The good thing is that the people around the coal mountains are impoverished – a perfect labor force. Thousands are hired to work in the pits and caves you create as wildlife flees. You work for the folks until they are ready to die – usually from black lung disease. It is hard to figure out how many carloads of coal are being shipped out as the industry is being fueled. A more manageable number to collate are those dying who must be replaced by younger miners who will fill the void. It's a numbers game. The trick is to tell the poor they will live a better life when you know they will not live to enjoy it. How do I know it was a trick? I visited Appalachia.The coal is no longer being mined, and the people are left staring at empty streets, waiting for a food wagon to arrive with free meals to supplement the food stamps they receive, and they are never enough to feed their families. They are poorer than they were before their lives were heisted. Let us look at this economic pinball game I call a money-pump heist. So, let's look more closely at it to see how and why it involves all of us. Willing or unwilling, we are all involved. Let's go! Read on, my friends. Darragh Christie
