DMB on the Rocks: Under the Rocks and Dreaming That night is the best-known chapter of a longer relationship. On the night of August 15, 1995, a five-piece band from Charlottesville, Virginia played a sold-out show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre that neither the band nor the venue fully understood the size of yet. The Dave Matthews Band had been playing the room since 1993, first as an opening act nobody in the crowd had come to see. By that August night two years later, they were headliners, and the tape they made of the show became Live at Red Rocks 8.15.95 — a double live album that sold over two million copies, reached number three on the Billboard 200, and helped invent the modern professionally-recorded live album for jam-adjacent rock bands. Three decades later, it's still one of the best-selling live albums of the SoundScan era.
