The Nineteenth-Century Blues exhibit was prompted by the wealth of beautiful blue fabrics popular in old quilts. American Quilt Study Group Quilt Study participants chose an inspiration quilt and after study, often extensive, created a study quilt dominated by blue. Almost 50 members signed on to make a quilt. A complete exhibition of all the study quilts occurred at the AQSG Seminar in Louisville, KY. Members were impressed with the breadth of designs featuring indigo, Prussian, cadet, and other nineteenth-century blues.

In this book, you will read about the process of creation for each study quilt. Makers each chose the processes they would use, following the Quilt Study guidelines. The joys and trials of each piece demonstrate the effort of each participant. The study guidelines are also provided so that you may understand the creation process from the makers’ perspective.
