In England on the coast of La Mancha, near the coast of Avon, lives Morciela, a 36 year old beauty with raven black hair. The time is 1792, during the French Revolution.

Morciela is a hedonistic sex priestess, daughter of a wealthy Lord. Once considered the most prominent and beautiful actress in England. Now heiress to a fortune, her career was destroyed when her tongue was cut out by an obsessed and jealous Aristocrat whose love she could not return. She is now patron of the arts, and artists whom she houses in her Grand Palace. It is a stone citadel, castle like structure which is home to this troupe of artists, intellectual outcasts, and others of lunatic fringe.

In France, King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette are prisoners of the revolutionaries in the Tuilleries Palace. The King and Marie are eventually guillotined. General Lafayette tried saving the queen but is shot and wounded. The Tuilleries Palace is torched, and as he awakes, Lafayette flees the chaos of France, back into England.

After finding General Lafayette in a cemetery delirious and half dead from the gunshot wound, Morciela revives him with a magical kiss and then takes him to her palace.

In Morciela’s palace, Lafayette meets her troupe, then falls in love with her. In the end, Morciela dies unexpectedly and Lafayette wonders whether everything was but a dream because he finds himself back in the same cemetery with the gunshot wound. To his horror, turning around towards the tomb on which he was resting, reads “Morciela 1755 to 1791" she did exist but had already been dead for one year.
