Relationships break down. Businesses and assets are lost. A life that appeared secure begins to unravel. There are periods of uncertainty, homelessness, difficult decisions and the painful realisation that some things cannot simply be fixed.

Then comes another beginning.

A return to work. Life on the road. Driving for Uber-not because driving was still a passion, but because the money was needed. A return to education. A completed degree. Postgraduate study interrupted by the death of a beloved sister. Another period of uncertainty when the world itself seemed to stop.

Through it all runs the same question:

What do you do when life knocks you down?

This memoir does not pretend to offer a perfect life or a perfect man. It is a story of mistakes, missed opportunities, trust, disappointment, family, faith and the lessons that only experience can teach.

It is also a reflection on the importance of stopping before making decisions, helping yourself when nobody else can, having patience, staying consistent, recognising people for who they really are, knowing when to let go, and understanding that your greatest assets are not always the things you can buy.

At its heart is a simple belief:

You can lose what you built without losing the ability to build again.
