Preface
This book is intended as a fundamental textbook of polymer chemistry for undergraduate students. It is particularly designed for newcomers in engineering and science departments or colleges; therefore, the content is at an introductory level.
This textbook mainly covers the chemical structures and synthetic methods of polymers or macromolecules because they are the most important parts of polymer chemistry.
This textbook has the following unique features:
1. It consists of questions (Q) and answers (A).
2. Their answers are presented mainly through figures (F) and schemes (S), occasionally through tables (T).
This book is divided into two parts, Part I (Polymers) and Part II (Polymerizations), which are in separate books. If you want to study how to synthesize polymers first, you may start with Part II.
As a closely related textbook --T. Aoki, School of Polymers (Amazon publishing, 2025 in Japanese) -- has already been published, it is recommended that you study it simultaneously with this book.
